RBC Concerto Series – Francis Poulenc for two pianos

Celebrating the RBC Concerto Series, pianist Jiayi Chen and Tianshun Lin will present Francis Poulenc Concerto for two pianos. Two talented pianists from China, currently pursuing their studies on scholarship at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, will present a unique musical experience to the audience through their own performances.

Francis Poulenc, born on January 7, 1899, in Paris and passing away on January 30, 1963, due to heart failure in Paris, began his musical journey as a pianist. Throughout his life, he composed numerous excellent piano works. One of his famous two-piano concertos, the D minor concerto, was commissioned by the Princess Edmond de Polignac, a renowned patron of the arts, and was completed in 1932. It had its successful premiere on September 5, 1932, at the International Contemporary Music Festival in Venice.
